Several years ago, New Hope Church gave an Extreme Home MakeOver to a needy family in the community. After a careful selection process, preparation involved going to the home to see what needed to be done, discussing the needs and wishes with the family, planning what improvements could realistically be done, and pulling together the talents in our church to make it happen. Several of our talented carpenters volunteered many hours before the big day to replace kitchen cabinets and install doors. Others signed up to supply items from a list of needed furniture, appliances, toys, carpet, paint, and more.
Then on one Saturday, the transformation took place. A volunteer took the family shopping and out to eat during the day while all the work was being done. The interior required lots of painting, moving furniture, hanging pictures, and more. An exterior team transformed the flower beds and cleaned up the yard. With many helping hands and the motivation of seeing so many dramatic improvements, the renovation was finished by late afternoon. The "unveiling" was an emotional experience for both the New Hope volunteers and the recipient family.
